The Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS), a joint project of the Washington State Department of Early Learning and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, is a kindergarten transition process that measures a child’s readiness in six domains and allows families, early learning professionals and kindergarten teachers to share information about incoming kindergarteners.

We face a big challenge; the gap seen later on in education achievement already exists when children enter kindergarten.
